The topic for the final was: ‘A great leader can change the world in an instant’

The event was held at Vörösmarty Mihály Gimnázium, Budapest, Horánszky u. 11, 1085.   Borszéki Judit  from the ESU in Hungary worked tirelessly to ensure that the schools involved were contacted and informed. The overall organiser, MC and sponsor was Steve Jones.

All participants received participation medals both in the junior and senior sections. Book prizes from Jobbagy Ilona were also given to the senior finalists. In addition the winner received the same medal in gold and the runner up in silver. The winner also receives an engraved plaque )example below) and will attend the final in London on 17th May. The name of the winner is also engraved on the competition shield (third shield – 1st from 2003, 2nd from 2012, 3rd from 2022) which will be offered for display at the venue.

 

There is a shield which records the winners. The present shield is the third and was first presented in 2022. The photo below shows the whole shield and the central panel.

 

Before the event began there was a well-received introductory welcome speech from the British Embassy representative Mr. Matthew Kirlew (First Secretary, Head of Policy) who thanked the sponsors, venue and particularly the participants, their teachers and parents.

The competition winner to go through to the International Final in London was Nagy Lilla Jácinta  (photographs to follow) and the runner-up was Gerlei Dániel (phots to follow).

Whilst the judges were establishing a winner the Junior Competition was held in the auditorium. It is traditional for the participants to give a 3 minute speech. When the speech is concluded the MC, Steve Jones, gave each participant  a critique of their performance and excellent they were. Their names are given below in the order in which they performed.
